Who we are
Folio Media, trading as Folio. This operator is responsible for information used by Folio. Contact hello@foliopicks.com with privacy questions.
What we collect
Search details stay in your current browser tab. If you save a hotel, we use a random trip identifier so you can return to it. The cookie lasts 90 days and inactive trip records are removed after 180 days. We do not ask for a name or email to use these features.
We count page views, reads and booking-link clicks on our own server. These counts hold a page address, a content version and a date, never a cookie, an identifier or your IP address, so they cannot be traced to you. If you do not allow analytics, our server also sends PostHog a page view for each visit, using the same request details our hosting logs already hold: page address, referring site, the trip details in the link you followed (party size, dates, the destination you typed), country, device type and browser. Your IP address and browser details are never sent; they are combined into a code that changes every day, so visits on different days cannot be linked, and nothing is stored on your device. If you allow analytics, PostHog additionally receives limited information about how Folio is used. If you allow advertising cookies, we may keep a campaign name or ad-click identifier for up to 90 days. You can change either choice through Cookie settings in the footer.
We also count how often the cookie banner is shown and which choices are made, including whether optional analytics starts after acceptance. These are daily totals grouped by banner version and site surface. They contain no visitor or session identifier, page address, IP address or saved browser information, and are not sent to PostHog before analytics consent. We use these totals to improve the clarity and reliability of our cookie choices.
If you use Ask Folio, your message is sent to Google's Gemini service to produce an answer. We do not save the message itself. Anonymous operating records are removed after 90 days.
If you choose voice search, your short recording and current search details are sent to Google's Gemini service to fill the search form. Folio does not save the recording or a transcript. We keep temporary, hashed network identifiers and request counts to limit misuse, and collect voice-search usage metrics only when you allow analytics.
If you send feedback, we keep what you submit so we can improve the page. When you follow a booking link, the booking provider handles any payment or booking information under its own privacy policy. Folio does not receive your payment details.
How we use it
We use this information to provide saved trips and search links, answer Ask Folio requests, improve our content, measure the site when permitted, and keep Folio secure. We rely on consent for optional analytics and advertising cookies, and on our legitimate interests for security, editorial feedback, the anonymous page and cookie-choice counts, and the daily-reset page views described above.
Who we share it with
We use hosting and database providers, PostHog for consented analytics, Google for Ask Folio and voice search, and booking partners when you choose to leave the site. We do not sell personal information. Some providers process information outside the UK using recognised transfer safeguards.
Your rights
You may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, transfer, or object to the use of your information. You can withdraw cookie consent at any time. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
