Stay in central Aveiro (Beira Mar or Rossio canal front) if arriving by train and wanting walkable restaurants, bakeries for ovos moles, and evening wine bars. Choose Costa Nova if your priority is fresh Atlantic sea breezes, ocean sunsets, seafood beach shacks, and postcard-perfect striped wooden cottages.
Train travellers, food lovers, and architecture fans
Overlook canal waterways, walk to fish restaurants in Praça do Peixe, and reach the train station on foot.
Think twice if: You want direct footsteps into ocean sand and Atlantic surf.

The Farol da Barra is Portugal’s tallest lighthouse at 62 metres, and the climb to the top is 288 steps.
It opens on Wednesdays in timed slots, in groups by order of arrival; check the current seasonal timetable before travelling.
Costa Nova and Praia da Barra sit on the coastal strip about 10 to 12 km from Aveiro and are reached by the beach bus rather than the main rail line.

The moliceiro jetties, the fish market and most restaurants sit on flat ground within a short walk.
