Rail & regional connections

High-speed Alfa Pendular (AP) and Intercidades (IC) trains run the backbone Linha do Norte connecting Lisbon to Porto via Coimbra and Aveiro in 2h 50m, and extend south to the Algarve (Faro, Albufeira, Tunes for Lagos). Scenic regional spurs branch seamlessly: the Linha do Douro hugs the river into Pinhão, while CP Urbanos serve Braga and Guimarães from Porto-Campanhã. For Madeira (FNC) and São Miguel, Azores (PDL), daily direct TAP and SATA flights connect Lisbon and Porto in 1.5 to 2.5 hours.

Tourist taxes & local charges

Municipal tourist taxes (taxa municipal de dormida) are levied per guest (aged 13+) per night: Lisbon (€4.00), Porto (€2.50), Coimbra (€1.00), Évora (€1.00), Funchal (€2.00), and selected coastal Algarve municipalities (€1.50–€2.00). Taxes are collected directly by hotels at check-in or checkout.
