Walking from Bolhão down to Ribeira covers 1,954 m with a 93 m descent and minimal 9 m gain, while the return trip requires an 84 m climb. Keep that uphill walk in mind when heading back up on foot.

Line E connects Porto Airport directly with Trindade. If that is your first and last journey, the northern pocket removes a transfer before you reach your accommodation.

São Bento is the useful Baixa rail anchor, but ‘Porto’ on an itinerary does not guarantee that it is the departure station. Match the ticket to the station before choosing the southern pocket.

Use it for
Urban suburban trains run directly from São Bento toward Aveiro, Braga, Guimarães, Marco de Canaveses and Leça do Balio.
Check
This central station suits many regional day trips, but it is not shorthand for every train leaving Porto.

Use it for
Regional and long-distance trains, including Alfa Pendular and Intercidades services, depart from Campanhã.
Check
Campanhã sits outside Baixa. If it appears on the ticket, include the connection rather than assuming a São Bento departure.

When the climb is the problem
Use transport selectively
Funiculars and lifts can ease your daily walks, provided their operating hours and locations fit your route.
Guindais Funicular
It connects lower Ribeira with upper Batalha across a 61.2-metre vertical climb, cutting out a steep uphill stretch on the walk back to upper Porto.
Batalha is east of the three Baixa pockets above, so this is a partial climb-saver, not a door-to-door solution. Check current service notices before relying on it.
